The Orthodox Church in Montenegro is expected to continue organizing prayer services and rallies against a recently passed law in the small Adriatic country.

The Orthodox Church in Montenegro has charged that the law threatens to confiscate its properties and relics in the country.

The law stipulates that religious institutions in Montenegro have until Jan. 8, 2021 to provide proof of ownership and titles to a state directorate for the properties they possess.

The Serbian Orthodox Church has charged that the law aims to confiscate historic monasteries and cathedrals and transfer their ownership to the state, with Church officials promising to take recourse to international fora and tribunals.
