Members of the Episcopal council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro met on Thursday with legal experts in order to discuss and examine all of the latest developments in the small Adriatic country, especially in the wake of last month’s general elections and the emergence of a new government.

According to a subsequent press release, hierarchs discussed the very negative repercussions for the Church and its faithful from an unconstitutional law passed by the previous Montenegro government.

Moreover, the Orthodox Church in Montenegro announced that it has tabled several initiatives and proposals to resolve Church-state differences in the country, as the new government has committed to adhering to its pre-election pledges and end what the Church has perceived as state persecution against it.
