Orthodox Metropolis of Zambia – Children in Chonqwe -Zambia

Zambia is a country of young people, with the majority of the population under the age of 18 (53.4 per cent). The estimated median age is 16.7 years ,which is one of the lowest in the region and globally.
Many of these children are affected by both monetary and non-monetary POVERTY – an estimated 54.5 per cent of the population lives below the national poverty line. In Zambia, 40.9 per cent of children suffer from at least three deprivations or more (e.g. lacking access to nutrition, education, health, water, sanitation, adequate housing).
Many households “have nothing to eat and are surviving on wild fruits or are getting by without any food,
Many Zambian children, especially those living in communities lacking roads and infrastructure, struggle to access healthcare, education and basic services.
But there is hope
The Orthodox Missionery activities of Zambian Metropolis continues with the blessing of Archbishop Ioanis. Fr Antonios ,in the road again ,visited Chongwe and taught people to have Faith in the Lord.
A program of Orthodox Church in Zambia focuses on improving the learning outcomes of children ,giving them hope for a brighter future and a chance to break the cycle of poverty.
