Orthodoxy a beacon of encouragement, hope and comfort amid coronavirus pandemic

The world’s Orthodox Churches, hierarchs, clerics and elders remain particularly active in global efforts to provide encouragement, hope and comfort to the faithful, and all humanity, amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, while at the same time repeatedly stressing the necessity of following guidelines and directives to reduce exposure to the virus.

Monks and nuns in Orthodox monasteries and convents around the world continue uninterrupted prayer for an end to the pandemic and for recuperation of those afflicted.

In Greece, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, when asked this week about a government order to suspend public services and rites in all places of worship in the country, emphasized that “… we’ll turn every home into a small Church; because we love God, even if we cannot meet Him in His House.”

Hierarchs of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece have issued successive encyclicals calling on the flock to join in prayer amid the global tribulation, while stressing the necessity to keep the Faith alive in our hearts — equipped with love, unity and solidarity.
