The Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, this week officiated at a blessing ceremony of a new building in the courtyard of the St. Spyridonas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the historic town of Helwan, just south of the greater Cairo area.
Helwan, on the banks of the Nile, was once home to a significant ethnic Greek community, with the emphasis today being to preserve the centuries-old presence of Hellenism and Orthodoxy in the region.
