Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Vlassis begins an official visit today to Egypt on Thursday. Vlassis, who holds the expatriate Greeks’ portfolio, was received by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, at the Patriarchal Vicarage of Cairo, before touring the Holy Monastery of St. George in Cairo’s old district.

The Greek minister will also join the Patriarch at a reception hosted by the ethnic Greek community of Cairo and other Hellenic communities in the country, for the annual New Year’s cake-cutting event, known in Greek as the “vassilopita”.

Vlassis will also travel to the historic Holy Monastery of St. Catherine, officially known as the Sacred Monastery of God-Trodden Mount Sinai, as well as the ancient port city of Alexandria.
