Patriarch of Alexandria on issue of UOC: Autocephaly should be granted to Church that seeks it

A very recent decision by the Patriarchate of Alexandria to recognize autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and to record the name of the Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, His Beatitude Epiphanius, in the Church’s diptychs, was cited by the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II.
The Alexandria Patriarch noted that “… A decision was necessary in order to help the other Churches, as well as the Russian Church, to understand that a Church that seeks autocephaly should have it granted – allowing them to see for themselves that the opposite cannot occur, and that with great humility they will see that the problem must be resolved … I do not believe a schism will occur.”
