Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos will pay his first official visit to Egypt this week.

The Greek minster will received by his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Zaki. He will also be received by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II.

The high-level contacts confirm the already very close and strategic relations between the two countries, which lie in the greater eastern Mediterranean region.

The Orthodox Church, itself a millennia-old institution in the ancient land of Egypt, is also a bridge between Greece and the North African country, enjoying, in fact, the support of Egyptian President Fatah Al Sisi.

The Egyptian leader has expressed his admiration, in the past, for the Patriarch of Alexandria.
