Patriarch of All Romania refers to significance of Egypt in Orthodox monasticism
The Patriarch of All Romania, His Beatitude Daniel, on Sunday referred to the significance of monasticism and the ancient land of Egypt, in a sermon.
“Egypt served as a sanctuary for the baby Jesus. Through His presence in Egypt, Christ transformed curse into blessing, inviting all peoples to salvation… Egypt over the next centuries became a center of Orthodox monasticism, where the first monasteries and brotherhoods began.”
