On 8 September 2023, His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary of Alexandria.

The Eucharistic Assembly was attended by the Members of the Cyprus Brotherhood of the Holy City, on the feast of Our Lady of Kykkos, Protector of the Brotherhood, as well as a delegation of the Cyprus National Guard, which is participating in the multinational exercise Bright Star’ 23, which is taking place in Egypt.

Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch, assisted by the Bishops Panteleimon of Naukratis, the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Narcissus of Pelusium, the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and Germanos of Tamiathus, Head of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified of Alexandria, celebrated a holy memorial service for the repose of the souls of his late Predecessor, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, Peter VII and the members of his entourage, who lost their lives in the air tragedy of September 11, 2004.

Subsequently, the Primate of the Church of Alexandria received the delegation of the Cyprus National Guard in the Throne Room of the Patriarchal Palace.

During his address, the Patriarch referred to the history of the Alexandrian Church, to its modern missionary activity in Africa, while he described with honourific words the work of his late Predecessor, Pope and Patriarch Peter VII, during his seven-year patriarchy. Finally, he expressed his thanks to Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos for the offer of the marble bust of the late Patriarch.

For their part, the heads of the Cypriot military delegation expressed the joy and blessing they felt while visiting the Patriarchate of Alexandria while praising the sacrificial ministry of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in the African continent. This was followed by an exchange of gifts and a tour to the premises of the Patriarchal Palace.
