A Patriarchal Divine Liturgy on the occasion of the Feast of St. Photios, Patriarch of Constantinople, was held today at the Holy Trinity Monastery, on the small Marmara-sea island of Halki. St. Photios founded the Holy Trinity Monastery on the isle.

Commemorations of the feast day were re-scheduled due to pandemic restrictions in Turkey during the weekdays.

Photios I is the patron saint of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece’s Holy Synod.

Unfortunately, the annual Synodal Divine Liturgy on saint’s feast day will not be conducted this year due to the pandemic.

The Divine Liturgy on the feast day of St. Photios is usually celebrated at the Dormition of the Theotokos Monastery in the Penteli district, north of Athens proper and below the slopes of Mt. Penteli.

This year, however, services over the two-day commemoration – today and Saturday – will be conducted at the catholicos, or main cathedral, of the Monastery of the Asomaton in central Athens.
