Patriarchate of Alexandria & All Africa unveils strict rebuke to further ‘intrusion’ of Church of Russian into its canonical territory
The Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa this week conveyed another Patriarchal letter to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Kirill, tersely calling on the Moscow Patriarchate to withdraw Metropolitan Klin from Africa and to rescind a non-canonical decision appointing the latter as a so-called “Exarch” of the Russian Church on the continent.
Unless this appointment is rescinded, then the Alexandria Patriarchate will depose Metropolitan Klin, it warned.
Moreover, the Alexandria Patriarchate again underlined the non-canonical decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Russia to establish of an “Exarchate” within its ecclesiastical territory.
The Church of Alexandria also explained that mere accusations by Metropolitan Klin and two clergymen, who claim what they call the “…incompetence of the Patriarchate of Alexandria”, either betray their ignorance of the Orthodox Church’s canon law, or, are a deliberate and malicious perversion of the truth.
The latter characteristically underlined that according to the canon rules of the Church, an offense is judged in the place where it allegedly occurred, therefore, the Patriarchate of Alexandria is the most competent to settle issues that take place within its ecclesiastical territory, namely, Africa.
