Thessaloniki has cancelled the military and student parades for triple celebrations between October 26 and 28, but President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou will still attend all other related activities.
Northern Greece’s historic city will celebrate its liberation from the Ottoman Turks (Oct. 26-27), the name day of its patron Saint Demetrios (Oct. 26), and the national “Ohi” holiday (Oct. 28).
Sakellaropoulou will attend the closed-door liturgy at St. Demetrios church on Monday, 26/10 (13:00), to be followed by a luncheon in her honor at the Officer’s Club. At 18:00 she will visit the Diikitirio building and tour the Historic Documentation Center.
On Tuesday, 27/10, the Greek president will be given a tour of the Municipal Art Gallery Casa Bianca (12:30), to be followed with luncheon by Mayor Constantine Zervas. At 18:15, Sakellaropoulou will visit the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki.
On Wednesday, 28/10, she will lay a wreath at the Heroes Monument of the 3rd Army Corps (10:30).
Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, public and official attendance at the events will be restricted.
