The western Greece port city of Patras will commemorate the feast day of its patron saint, Andrew the First- Called Apostle, on Monday.
Patras, in the ancient Achaia region of the northwest Peloponnese, is the place where St. Andrew was crucified on an X-shaped cross.
The feast day is annually celebrated with splendor and reverence in the city, although this year’s unprecedented public health emergency has cancelled most of the services. Greek PM Mitsotakis, in fact, spoke with local leaders to impress upon them the need to maintain precautions ahead of Monday’s feast day.
