Putin bestows Order for Merit to Fatherland, 1st degree on oldest ruling bishop of Russian Orthodox Church

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to bestow the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, 1st Degree upon Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna, a ruling diocesan bishop of the Moscow diocese, in recognition of his “extensive contribution to the development of spiritual and cultural traditions and the strengthening of peace and accord between peoples.”

Metropolitan Juvenaly (born Vladimir Kirillovich Poyarkov), turns 85 on September 22. He is the oldest metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church, the oldest ruling bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church by date of ordination, and, since July 1, 2020, the oldest ruling bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church by age.
