Renewed talks between the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country of Montenegro and the country’s government, regarding a controversial law that the Church says is a threat to its properties, standing and dignity, continued this week, but without a resolution being found.
A law regarding religious institutions in the country was ratified last month, in the face of sharp opposition by the Orthodox Church in the country, which represents the largest and oldest religious denomination in Montenegro.
On Sunday, thousands of people again took to the streets for peace protests and prayer rallies, with the demonstration in the country’s capital, Podgorica, attended by roughly 60,000 faithful.
The Metropolitan Bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amphilochios, participated in a rally in the city of Niksic.
