An exodios funeral service and inter-ment was held on Wednesday for the reposed Metropolitan of Kastoria Seraphim, the Metropolis’ pastoral father for the past 24 years.
he funeral service was held in the morning at the Dormition of the Theotokos cathedral in the eponymous lake-side city, officiated by the Metropolitan of Didymoticho, His Eminence Damaskinos, and co-officiated by appointed locum te-nens – or temporary overseer of the specific Metropolis, His Eminence David, the Metropolitan of Grevena.
The funeral service for the beloved hierarch was held amid strict public assembly restrictions imposed to prevent exposure to the Covid-19 virus. Sadly, mourners were prevented from reaching the cathedral to pay their last respects and to mourn the passing of Seraphim.
A three-day period of mourning was declared by the regional and municipal governments in the Kastoria prefecture.
The reposed Metropolitan, 61, had tested positive for Covid-19 in early December and was transferred to a military hospital in the northern city of Thessaloniki on Dec. 8 as a precaution. Subsequently, he was intubated in an ICU ward five days before Christmas.
