At the instruction of the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Great Antioch and All the East, Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov) visited the Syrian representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross based in Damascus to meet with its head, Mr. Alexander Shpoerry.
During their talk, Father Arseny informed Mr. Shpoerry that, with a blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Damascus representation of the Russian Orthodox Church planned to organize and equip a center for prosthetics and medical rehabilitation of children who were severely wounded in the course of military actions in Syria.
Mr. Philip Shpoerry, in his turn, informed the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church about the work carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross in Syria together with the Syrian Red Crescent and expressed the readiness of the Syrian representation of the ICRC to help with equipping the future center.
