An expert committee of public health officials and epidemiologists in Greece has reportedly given the government the “go-ahead” to allow the reopening of the retail sector in the country, as of Monday. Much of the retail sector in Greece has been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Strict restrictions will still be imposed, with the customers needing an appointment to use the so-called “click in shop” method of shopping, although the “click away” method of ordering and then picking up merchandise outside stores will still be mandated in areas of a high concentration of the Covid-19 virus.
On a bright note, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s most recently revised maps tracking the Covid-19 pandemic on the continent shows a handful of Greek regions in the coveted green color, meaning that they are at the lowest end of the spectrum for related figures.
Specifically, the mountainous Epirus region in the country’s northwest, the Ionian islands, along with the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands are all in the “green” zone – unique for all of the European Union.
At the same time, the Church of Greece is awaiting news over the status of Church-going, as services are still being held without the presence of worshipers, while the holding of the sacraments of marriage and baptism have also been suspended.
The Church of Greece has decried the fact that religious weddings and baptisms are suspended in cathedrals and chapels, although civil ceremonies and name-giving in municipality registrars is allowed.
