Romanian President Klaus Iohannis this week decorated, post-mortem, Fr. Sorin Grecu, the parish priest of the Romanian Orthodox Church’s Apostle Paul and All Romanian Saints Cathedral in London, with the National Order of Merit, Knight’s class.
The decoration was bestowed in recognition and appreciation of the late clergyman’s defense of religious freedom and the principles of democracy, both before and after the events of December 1989 in Romania, as well as his years of ministry to the expatriate Romanian community in the UK.
Fr. Sorin reposed in the Lord earlier this month at the age of 61.
