Russian Church spokesman: Mass persecution of Christians around the world unprecedented

Russian Orthodox Church spokesman Vladimir Legoida warned that the 21st century is witnessing the greatest number of mass persecutions of Christians in history. He made the statement during a meeting held in the Russian capital regarding the situation in the Middle East.

According to Legoida, Christian communities in the Mideast are threatened, with the entire system of international relations and global policy also threatened by this situation.

He also reminded that the Russian Church considers the presence of Russia in war-torn Syria as a vital for the protection of not only Christians, but of Muslims, as well, with the latter often becoming hostages to a “pseudo-religious” terrorism, as he said.
