The glory of the newly-revealed ecumenical Saint Paisios the Hagiorite has also reached the remote jungles of Africa. There also, many Christians take his saintly name in baptism, read about his life and teachings, and Churches are built in his honour.

In 2012, His Eminence Metropolitan Innocentios of Burundi and Rwanda founded the Church of Saint Paisios in the Parish of Rwabutazi. In 2014 a small Church was built and in 2017, the Church itself was expanded.

In 2023, with the help of Christians from Romania, a new large church with a capacity of 2,500 believers was started.

On 30 June 2024, the Patriarchal Commissioner of Rwanda and Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba and Western Tanzania, conducted the Inauguration Service of the New Church, to the great joy of the clergy and Christians of the new and small Orthodox Church of Rwanda.

“We hope that Christ who planted this “vine” and organised it with the unwavering interest and support of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria and All Africa, will enjoy divine progress and growth,” said His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos.
