Spiritual Day Retreat and Pilgrimage to Wallaroo S.A
On Sunday 7th of February 2021, the St Stephen’s Central Youth Committee of the Archdiocesan District of Adelaide organised a day retreat at the parish of St Nicholas, Wallaroo.
The day got off to a beautiful start, with a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided by His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope. Concelebrating with him were the parish priest Fr Christos Tsoraklidis and visiting priests Fr Michael Psaromatis and Fr Jeremy Krieg. The service was well attended, with the modest church filling to its COVID capacity, including many of the youth who took the 1h45m journey from Adelaide, and a few others who also came down from the neighbouring parish in Port Pirie. His Grace spoke inspiringly on the Parable of the Talents – the Gospel reading for the day.
After the service, those present were treated to a wonderful luncheon of fried fish by the local philoptochos, followed by coffee and a nice combination of Greek and non-Greek sweets. This was in turn followed by an informal Q and A session with the clergy who were present, with the youth asking some of the questions about the faith that were of interest to them.
After the Q & A session, the group took a stroll down to the local jetty – quite an impressive structure – taking in the peaceful scenery and chatting with the local recreational anglers.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all as a great opportunity for Orthodox Christian fellowship – so much so that it is likely to be repeated with our other regional parishes in the months to come.
