St. Tikhon of Zadonsk Monastery in Waymart, Pennsylvania is the oldest Orthodox monastery in the United States. The Divine Liturgy has been celebrated at the monastery every day that the Typikon allows since its founding in 1905 by the future Patriarch St. Tikhon of Moscow.

Now the monastery’s main church is in need of repairs. According to the monastery’s GoFundMe page, the roof is in need of repair and re-shingling.

The fundraiser has currently gathered $180 of the $30,000 goal.

In addition to the daily prayers offered for the whole world, St. Tikhon’s also plays a pivotal role in the musical life of Orthodox parishes in North America. Earlier this year, St. Tikhon’s launched a comprehensive liturgical music resource.

St. Tikhon’s Monastery’s professional choir was nominated for a 2021 Grammy in the Best Choral Performance category for its live recording of Alexander Kastalsky’s “Requiem for Fallen Brothers.” In October, the Saint Tikhon Choir’s recording of Benedict Sheehan’s composition of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom was released to international critical acclaim.
