The latest series of public assembly restrictions and partial lockdown measures, all aimed to prevent exposure to the coronavirus pandemic, went into effect in Greece on Tuesday.
At present, a lockdown status has been applied to the greater Thessaloniki area in the north, and the adjacent Serres prefecture, due to a significant spike in the number of confirmed Covid-19 infections in both regions.

In terms of places of worship, three new emergency levels were announced, namely, A, B and C. In the first case, a maximum number of seated worshippers is set at 50, with the ratio being at least 10 square meters for each person inside a place of worship.

If a region is listed as being in level 2, then the maximum number of worshippers falls to nine for all services and sacraments.

In level 3, which denotes the most serious public health situation, services are held without worshippers, while only funerals are allowed, and then only with a maximum nine mourners in attendance.
