More than 20,000 Romanian Orthodox faithful participated last week in a procession with the relics of St. John the New of Suceava. The action inaugurated a series of events celebrating the patronal feast of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Suceava, which is protected by the saint.

The “Path of the Saints” procession was led by Archbishop Calinic of Suceava and Rădăuți, Bishop Andrei of Covasna and Harghita and Auxilliary Bishop Damaschin of Dorna.

After the procession, a Vigil service was officiated in honour of Great Martyr George, the historical patron saint of “St. John the New” Monastery.

Tens of thousands of pilgrims usually participate in liturgical events related to the patronal feast of the Suceava Cathedral, which rememorates, on June 24, the Translation of St John the New’s Relics from Cetatea Albă (Moncastro) to Suceava.
