Theology professor: Religious tourism has staying power in face of pandemic

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki theology professor Christos Tsironis this week referred to the significant contribution and prospect for even greater potential for religious tourism and pilgrimages in Greece.
Prof. Tsironis noted that the particular sub-sector of the tourism industry has shown remarkable staying power in the face of economic, social or political instability that periodically affect specific destinations.

Greece currently features several pre-eminent religious destinations linked for centuries with Orthodoxy, such as the autonomous monastic community of Mount Athos, in northern Greece, the Meteora rock formations in central Greece, as well as the islands of Patmos and Tinos.
