Threats by Montenegro president against ruling party members who participate in rallies supporting Orthodox Church
The president of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, this week threatened members of his own ruling Democratic Party of Socialists not to participate in protest rallies in support of the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country, warning of “possible sanctions”, such as expulsion.
Heightend protests and opposition continue in Montenegro against a controversial law passed last month by Đukanović’s government, which the Orthodox Church warns is an attempt to seize its properties.
