Sunday marked the 31st anniversary of the repose in the Lord of Ecumenical Patriarch Demetrios, who served as the Shepherd of the Mother Church for 19 years.
On the occasion, the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Sunday afternoon visited the grave of the his predecessor and officiated at a Trisagion prayer service.
In another item related to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, His All Holiness Bartholomew was honored over the weekend with the Gold Medal of the University of Piraeus, during a special ceremony held in the Throne Room of the Patriarchal residence in the Bosporus metropolis.
In presenting the Ecumenical Patriarch with the distinction, the rector of the university, Prof. Angelos Kotios, referred to the ministry and works of the Shepherd of the Mother Church, especially the environmental awareness initiatives commenced by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
