Islamist Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s vision of an Islamic arc in the Balkans created reverberations in Kosovo this week, as protests broke out in Pristina on Wednesday over the beginning of construction of a “mega mosque” in the Dardania district, a project financed entirely by the Islamic Community of Turkey.

The main slogan expressed by protesters against the construction is that Kosovo is not a province of Turkey.

A rival protest took place by pro-government supporters.

Construction of the mega mosque began on July 15. A Kosovo news outlet said the project is expected to cost more than 30 million euros and will last around three years.
