The UK minister for the European Neighbourhood, Wendy Morton, has reiterated her government support for a just and lasting settlement to reunite Cyprus, as well as for UN resolutions related to the closed-off and Turkish occupied city of Famagusta.
Morton was responding MPs queries over the matter of Famagusta.

The Parliamentary scrutiny came after a personal and moving letter by the Savvides brothers from Famagusta, who detailed their family’s experiences and the Turkish threat to violate UN resolutions by opening up the resort town to others than its lawful inhabitants.

Morton said British officials have in the past made the UK’s concerns over the issue of Famagusta very clear to the Turkish foreign ministry, particularly the fact that attempts to resettle Famagusta with other than lawful inhabitants are not acceptable.
