On 10th February 2019, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, officiated during Orthros and the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas in Alexandria, on the commemoration of the Hieromartyr Saint Haralambos.
Speaking to the large congregation as well as to the dignitaries who were present, the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Athanasios Kotsionis, the Cypriot Brotherhood of Alexandria, the representatives of bodies and Associations, the Alexandrian Primate referred to the miraculous life of the Hieromartyr St Haralambos, stressing the terrible torture he suffered during the years of great persecution of Christianity, as well as his courageous spirit, who despite his great age, did not hesitate to confess his faith in Christ.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Alexandrian Primate conducted the Memorial Prayers at the statue of the National Leader and Archbishop of Cyprus, Makarios the III, which towers over the courtyard of the Holy Monastery as well as the unveiling of the mosaic of the Cypriot flag, which was placed in front of the statue.
His Beatitude mentioned the great struggle of Archbishop Makarios III for a free and united Cyprus, as well as his great contribution to the missionary work on the African continent and the enormous assistance he contributed from the Holy Monastery of the All Holy Virgin of Kykkos.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Consul General of Greece, emphasized the indivisible and fraternal bond between Greece and Cyprus, stressing how we need such luminous figures of Ecclesiastical leaders to inspire and guide us.
