Vandals again target churches, monuments in Greece

More instances of vandalism against churches and monuments were reported in Greece over the past week. A bust of St. Chrysostomos of Smyrma, in the Nikaia district of Piraeus, was vandalized by unknown perpetrators, causing anger and sadness amongst local residents.

Another instance of vandalism was also reported on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos, which since 2015 has hosted tens of thousands of third country nationals who landed there as would-be asylum seekers, practically all from predominately Muslim countries. The latter were smuggled onto the island by traffickers operating from the opposite Turkish coast.
