Volunteer: Mideast Christians in a specific ‘hotspot’ in Greece targetted by Muslim extremists for conversion
The volunteer said threats of violence and even assaults have been reported, with organized groups of Muslim men in various such “hotspot” shelters attempting to pressure Mideast Christians to convert, especially women and minors.
Tens of thousands of third country nationals have landed on a handful of Greek islands or sneaked into the country through a land border since 2015, after setting off from neighboring Turkey. The irregular migrants and would-be asylum seekers often hail from war-torn Syria and other Mideast countries, but also from sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and south Asia, with many illegally entering Greece in a bid to reach preferred destinations in central and western Europe.
The vast majority of those who entered Greece in such a manner did so from predominately Muslim Turkey.
