A 21-year-old Christian convert in Iran, well known for highlighting the plight of persecuted Christians in the Middle East country, remains missing nearly three weeks after her arrest.

According to media reports, Fatemeh Mohammadi, also known as Mary, was among those arrested earlier this month in central Tehran. At the time of her arrest, street protests were underway in the Iranian capital in response to the government’s admission that its military forces were responsible for the downing of a Ukrainian passenger jet, shortly after it took off from the Tehran airport.

Mohammadi was arrested by police and transported to an unknown location. Nearly three weeks after her arrest no one has heard from the young woman.

In previous messages on her Twitter account, the young Christian convert referred to the difficulty in combating “soft repression” in the predominately Muslim country, in comparison to “hard repression,” as she said, accusing the Iranian government of “…institutionalizing false beliefs through selective coverage of the news,” and “…lies that are bigger and more repetitive to make them more believable.”

Mohammadi was previously arrested another three times and spent six months in prison on charges of “membership in proselytizing groups,” “Christian activity,” and “acting against national security through propaganda against the regime.”
